Nature play meets the Melbourne skyline at this seriously fun city playground!

Right in the heart of Melbourne, Birrarung Marr Playground is a brilliant spot for kids who love to climb, scramble, balance and explore. Set amongst the parklands beside the Yarra, it combines traditional playground fun with a thoughtful focus on nature, sustainability and the textures of Melbourne itself.

There are four slides, including a huge long ramp, plus a basket swing, traditional swing set and an inclusive swing. Kids can tackle the rock-climbing elements, scramble across the logs and boulders, and get stuck into the awesome spider net climbing frame.

But it’s the story behind the nature play that Mamma really loves. The rocks used throughout the playground are actually old kerbstones collected from the City of Melbourne’s depot, while the logs have come from trees around the city. These materials have been given a new life within the playground, creating a space that celebrates Melbourne’s own textures, materials and landscape.

And then there’s the location… hello, Melbourne! After a play, you can wander along the Yarra, head to Federation Square, visit ArtPlay or continue exploring the CBD. It’s FREE, easy to access and such a great addition to a Melbourne day out - especially when the kids need somewhere to explore and burn off some serious energy.
