leonardo da vinci: the lume melbourne, south wharf

If you thought a trip to Italy in 2024 is maybe a bit out of reach, think again! The LUME is back, and this time you can journey through the incredible works of Leonardo Da Vinci - 500 Years of Genius.

THE LUME is Australia's first permanent digital gallery here in Melbourne. THE LUME space is incredible and the immersive experience is one that Mamma says you really need to see.

You and the family will be in awe as you walk (or twirl) around the huge art space here. With 360 degree jaw dropping projections and choreographed music you are quite literally inside history - explore original pages from notebooks, artefacts, sketches, an exact digital 360 degree recreation of the Mona Lisa and more!

Mamma’s special mentions:

The technology is flawless with a synchronised symphony of sound and art surrounding you. The kids are especially drawn to the hands-on, tactile elements of the interactive sections. Have a go at sketching one of Da Vinci’s incredible inventions! Explore the inventions and contraptions!

And, as an add-on to any single entry ticket, fly over the streets of Florence with an immersive VR experience!

Can you take the kids?
ABSOLUTELY! The kids will love it - ALL of ours did from the babies to the older ones this is the kind of space where kiddos can skip, crawl, dance or jeté as it is a safe and very cool gallery space for all ages. It is even pram friendly! We have seen lots of amazing things over the years but this is quite special and something we will talk about or indeed go back to again to experience.

Kids 0-3 are FREE. The floor is super soft and would be great for bubs who can crawl. A little noise is ok too as they chase the lights and ooohh and ahhh at the projections. Take a seat and enjoy your artistic experience.

Oh this is also a great night for date night too!

Why not double down on the visual experiences? The BBC Earth Experience is on right next door!
