research institute gallery @ melbourne museum, carlton

It’s in our nature to ask questions. What lives in the depths of the sea? Is extinction forever? For more than 165 years Museums Victoria researchers have been inquiring, collecting and collaborating to understand our changing world. You can now take a look behind the scenes at Melbourne Museum’s new exhibition, Research Institute Gallery.

A brand new permanent exhibition featuring world-class research and ground-breaking discoveries by the Museums Victoria Research Institute has now opened Melbourne Museum.

You and the family will learn about the history of research at Melbourne Museum, the Museums Victoria Research Institute's most topical projects, and the impact of the Institute's work on the Australian and international community as it explores the big ideas and challenges of our time.

Expect to see the return of the museum’s collection of taxidermy specimens as well as multimedia presentations and artifacts, showcaseing the museum’s research in fields such as marine biology, geology, palaeontology and minerology.

You will find this new exhibition in the Science & Life Gallery, right near the Dino Walk and entry is included in your admission ticket.
